In today’s complicated world it is difficult to define my service in simple terms. Some would argue that the word ‘design’ is too general to be applied to my services and that ‘graphic design’ would be more appropriate. However, I would argue that aspects of my work and experience fall outside this definition as the modern world sees the merging of old and new media and skills bases. Here are a couple of definitions that may help to define what I do, although a quick look at the other headings to the left or a scan of my portfolio will help more.
DESIGN: Any form of visual artistic representation.
GRAPHIC DESIGN: The applied art of arranging image and text to communicate a message. It may be applied in any media, such as print, digital media, motion pictures, animation, product decoration, packaging and signs. Graphic design as a practice can be traced back to the origin of the written word but only in the late 19th century did it become identified as a separate entity.
